How to Do the Walk-Around & Why it’s Important
A walk-around with a carrier assesses your vehicle at both origin and destination–similar to renting a car. Loose items must be noted on the Bill of Lading (BOL), if remaining in the vehicle during shipping (extra mats, keys, manuals, etc.).
Before shipping, the carrier and designated person look for any dings, scratches or other existing imperfections, inside and out. Anything found is noted on the BOL and signed by both parties.
Another walk-around is done at delivery. It is critical to mark items on the BOL, as that is the legally-binding document that indicates a difference from origin to destination. Failure to notate damaged or missing items means you received the vehicle in satisfactory condition, as it was when it was picked up.
Items found at delivery that were not noted at origin (or missing “loose” items listed) should be reported to Team Alex immediately, along with pictures and a brief description–see FAQ titled “What to do if there is damage” for further instructions.
