Electronic BOLs

Electronic BOLs

Many carriers use an online or electronic Bill of Lading or BOL.  If a carrier picking up or delivering a vehicle for you uses an electronic BOL, verify that your copy of the BOL is in your email inbox before the driver loads the vehicle or before they leave after unloading.  We’ve found that many online BOL apps do a poor job of emailing the BOL to the pickup or delivery contact, even though it is indicated it was done.

If, during a delivery walk-around, you find damage, insist the driver pull up the damage section to notate the damage. Drivers tend to skim past the damage page, hoping you won’t mark it.  If not possible, document the damage in pictures–with the driver present.  A photo of the damage with the driver in it is almost as good as noting it on the BOL and can mean the difference between a damage claim getting paid or not. Be sure to contact Team Alex immediately about any damage found.
